Versified!

THE HUMAN EQUATION

By Javier Ronceros - 04/17/202

[NoHo Arts District, CA] – A NoHo Arts theatre review of Versified!: The Human Equation, an extraordinary ensemble of actors under the direction of Sonny Lira, bringing the life and wonder of Bob Gossom’s unique verses to the stage.

Joyful and poignant are the first two words that came to mind as I walked away from the Two Roads Theatre in Studio City. It was an evening of adroit poetry and inspired performances from the ensemble, each taking on dozens of characters in a dance of the human condition. This talented ensemble consisted of; D’Andre, Carver Folkes, Grace Giib, Aidan John, Jeannette Srinivasan, and Valerie Vibar. Each performer brought their unique take and energy as they entered and exited the fast paced show.A NoHo Arts theatre review of Versified!, an extraordinary ensemble of actors bringing the life and wonder of Bob Gossom’s unique verses to the stage.

The deft direction by Sonny Lira kept the pieces flowing together like songs on an album, sometimes one piece ending as another began. At other times, a slight pause as for the audience to take a breath. As fine as the performances were, I must credit the poet, Bob Gossom whose poetry was the fuel from which the actors brought gave the words life. I haven’t seen a show like this since my days in New York.Versified! not only gives you pause to think, but also a reminder to take in a breath and reflect on the complexity of humans and their emotions. We, as audience members, were brought into a world of expertly crafted works of art that were married to motion and sound. I was impressed, entertained, and encouraged to feel. When theatre can accomplish these in one performance, it reminds me of the joy of live theatre. I must also include the lighting design of the show, John Manning and Michael Rogers. The lighting felt like an additional character in the piece. A wonderful team brought us this show and I am grateful.
